Dr. Benny Lo from Des Voeux Chambers has recently been appointed a member of the Proceedings Committee of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC), with effect from 3 October 2024.
The Proceedings Committee is mandated by the HKIAC Council primarily to: (1) decide challenges to the appointment of an arbitrator or an emergency arbitrator; (2) exercise all other powers vested in HKIAC by the arbitration rules issued by HKIAC to the extent that such powers are not exercised by the Appointments Committee or the Secretariat; and (3) consider revisions of HKIAC’s existing arbitration rules and practice notes and propose the adoption of new rules and practice notes. The work of the Proceedings Committee, the Appointments Committee and the Secretariat is subject to the supervision of the HKIAC Council.

Apart from a busy court litigation practice, Benny is sought after internationally as arbitration advocate and arbitrator in commercial and investment treaty arbitrations. He has been described by leading legal directories as “one of the best arbitration specialists at the Hong Kong Bar” and “one of the most experienced and in-demand arbitrators of the younger generation in Hong Kong”.
