Celebrating International Women’s Day: “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” Ceremony at HKEX

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX), in collaboration with Women Chief Executive Hong Kong, hosted the “Ring the Bell for Gender Equality” ceremony today at HKEX Connect Hall, celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 and highlighting the importance of gender diversity in businesses, markets and communities. DVC members Frances Lok SC, Catrina Lam and Practice Development Director & Head Clerk Jeani Wang supported this meaningful global initiative, alongside a full house of industry leaders, corporate executives, and diversity advocates.

HKEX CEO Bonnie Y Chan opened the ceremony with welcome remarks, followed by a symbolic “gong-strike” for advancing gender equality in corporate leadership and governance.

After the opening remarks, Paul Chow, Group General Counsel & Chief Sustainability Officer of HKEX, moderated a panel discussion titled “Get on Board for Gender Diversity and Empowerment: What’s next?”, featuring panelists including Mary Huen, CEO of Hong Kong and Greater China & North Asia, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited; Amy Lo, JP, Chairman of Global Wealth Management Asia, UBS Global Wealth Management; Head and Chief Executive of UBS Hong Kong; and Angel Ng, Regional CEO, Greater China, Prudential.

Inclusion, respect, and opportunity are core values at Des Voeux Chambers. As of March 2025, there are 27 female barristers, including 4 senior counsel, nearly one third of the total number of practitioners. We continue to actively participate in and contribute to meaningful conversations, partnerships, and initiatives that drive progress towards greater gender equality, both within the legal sector and across the broader corporate landscape.
