Last week (March 16), Hong Kong’s Deputy Secretary of Justice, Mr Cheung Kwok-kwan, led a delegation of over 30 legal professionals to attend the “Resolve2Win – Legal Services of Hong Kong, Opportunities for All” event in Bangkok, Thailand to share the latest developments in mediation and arbitration as well as Hong Kong’s full-fledged legal services with local community. DVC’s Winnie Tam SC spoke at the panel and shared Hong Kong’s legal framework and arbitration that keeps up with international developments, including the amendment of Arbitration Ordinance (Cap. 609) in 2017 to clarify that intellectual property rights disputes may be resolved by arbitration and the introduction of Third-party funding of arbitration, plus the Outcome Related Fee Structures for Arbitration regime came into effect in 2022, providing clients and their lawyers with flexible fee arrangements.
Co-organised by the Department of Justice and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, DSJ hopes that this campaign would foster exchange and provide opportunities for businesses and legal and ADR service providers in both places. More than 200 representatives of the financial, legal, and professional services sectors participated at the Conference.
