Des Voeux Chambers and Wolters Kluwer Hong Kong are pleased to announce the publication of a new arbitration title – “The Art of Resolving Global Disputes: Navigating International Commercial Arbitration” during the Hong Kong Arbitration Week 2023 on 16 October.
Joined by the Guests of Honour, Mr Justice Jonathan Harris (also a contributor to the chapter on shareholders and insolvency dispute), Sir William Blair, and Dr Anthony Neoh KC SC, the Book Launch Drinks Reception took place at the DVC Conference Centre, welcoming over 100 guests to this occasion.
Winnie Tam SC, Head of Chambers of DVC, shared that “this is the first collaborative work on international arbitration authored by members of a set of barristers’ chambers in Hong Kong. The current members of DVC have been blessed with the legacy of a string of leading international arbitration professionals in commercial, construction, and admiralty disputes amongst our former and current senior members. Their experience, professionalism, and scholarship have inspired many. We will continue to strive to provide leadership and guidance, and a broad international outlook, to groom our younger members into scholars and top-notch arbitration practitioners in their own right. I am proud of their dedication to this project and hope this is but the first of many more.”
Dr William Wong, S.C. and Look Chan Ho are the editors-in-chief. Dr Wong said: “post-COVID and in the midst of new geopolitical dynamics, there is not a time which is more urgent and apposite for Hong Kong to contribute to the general global community of its legal capacities in resolving disputes. Hong Kong has a long common law tradition and the most open and inclusive legal system in the world. We pride ourselves on being an efficient, impartial, and independent legal dispute resolution hub. We welcome lawyers and dispute resolution experts in all disciplines to come to Hong Kong to contribute their expertise and knowledge. We need peace, not war. Our humble wish is that the publication of this book, which is the joint effort of 36 independent barristers at DVC, helps towards the building of a cost-effective, fair, and respected dispute resolution ecosystem at least in this part of the world.”
