The Society of Construction Law Hong Kong successfully hosted an evening seminar entitled “Legal Advice on Construction Projects: Employers vs Contractors” at the HKIAC with full-house attendance on 12 September 2024.
Kaiser Leung of Des Voeux Chambers took part as a panel speaker and had the pleasure of being joined by Janice Cheng of Hogan Lovells, Marie Devereux of Vinson & Elkins (London office) and Jessica van der Kamp of Mayer Brown.
During the panel discussion, the speakers walked through two fictitious case scenarios exploring topical challenges faced by international construction projects. In particular, the speakers explored the legal and practical considerations arising from such projects through the eyes of the employers and the contractors respectively, including navigating the impacts of inflation; addressing supply chain disruptions; adopting new technologies; handling delays; and preparing for claims.
