Peking University will host a course on “International Commercial Dispute Resolution: Practice and Training” (“PKU course”) featuring DVC members Patrick Fung SC, Winnie Tam SC, William Wong SC, Benny Lo, Ellen Pang, and Cherry Xu. They are scheduled to deliver lectures on April 27th, May 11th, and May 25th respectively, sharing their theoretical knowledge and practical experience in international arbitration with mainland law students.
On top of that, Des Voeux Chambers has collaborated with Peking University to establish a Scholarship for PKU courses this year. Scholarships will be awarded to students participating in the international commercial dispute resolution course. The purpose of this scholarship is to enhance the recipient’s understanding of international arbitration procedures and practices through a two-week pupillage with members of the DVC. Pupil masters will provide guidance and training on drafting documents and court procedures during this time.
Since 2023, DVC has funded the “Des Voeux Chambers PKU Scholarship”, available to Peking University Law School graduates and current students, including undergraduates (including those participating in the Peking University-The University of Hong Kong dual Bachelor of Laws program), graduates completing their studies in the summer of 2024, and alumni from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 classes pursuing relevant law programs at Oxford or Cambridge University in the UK.
Founded by William Wong SC, an alumnus of Peking University Law School, the initiative aims to cultivate high-end foreign-related legal talents. In addition to full tuition support, DVC provides living and transportation allowances, pupillage opportunities in Hong Kong, and ongoing financial support based on the needs of the recipients. Since its establishment in 1984, Des Voeux Chambers has been committed to promoting the development and application of international arbitration in Hong Kong and around the world. Its members have played a crucial role in establishing Hong Kong as a center for international dispute resolution. DVC has a long history of supporting the training of international arbitration professionals, with many of its members who are experienced practitioners and arbitrators in the field having served as instructors for the course.
